The Famous Mumbai Fashion Street

I finally got to see the most talked about Fashion Street of Mumbai, this visit. Tucked cozily on the street side close to Churchgate in old Bombay, it’s a plethora of options to choose from.

As always, girls have more choices and better ones. However, most of the designs, be it for men or ladies, is much inspired by the blockbusters of Bollywood and Hollywood and tees with imprints of known rock bands. The cuts and designs are so vivid and sometimes strange, I was lost either appreciating or disliking them.

I also heard that I went in time to get the best prices due to clearance sales as Navaratri and Diwali will see a surge of new fashion.

Some are fixed price shops and some are bargain outlets. However, even the fixed price shops will have some bargain friendly goods.

And talking about the Mumbai shopkeepers, I am happy to see so much customer friendliness. When he quotes a price and you start to walk away, he says “aap Batao kitna doge, bolna aapka hak hai” (translating to “you tell me the price you would wish to offer, quoting your price is your right”. Now that’s not just as a smart line, they really mean it, making it a proud experience for the consumer. Something for our entrepreneurs to learn from.

Variety, politeness, customer friendliness and smart talk mixed in a comfortable proportion is what you would get to see there.

All in all a great experience.

Quote yours in the comments and could include it in my next review or update.

Post TED BIA Tweetup

As we waited for the known TED Fellows to some by at the Bangalore International Airport, we bumped into Pranav Mistry, the Indian MIT geek superhero, responsible for the Sixth Sense device that may hit us soon. Recollected the TED Video of Pattie Maes I saw a few days back showcasing the remarkable device.

Also exchanged Smiles with Kabir Bedi as he was rushing for his flight, with a quick "Hi" shoutout!

Then came @gauravonomics, @sanjuktha, @dina, @labnol, @amitverma, Pat, Parmesh (editor Vogue Magazine), and a few lovely friends. [Will update this list with the appropriate names soon. Will ask Lord @dhempe.]

Same memorable snaps with the Stalwarts, right here.

#BFT at 3Storeys Bangalore

This #BFT (Bangalore Friday Tweetup) we had at 3 Storeys the sea food joint off Lavelle Road, was quite an attendance. With @angeldirect (Tina) not there for it, @dhempe (Hrish) and @brandbull (ShyamS) organized it with close to 15 people attending it. @swarathma was represented by Jishnu, who shared a lot of insights into the band, its history and some funny moments. Comments and questions poured in from every corner with @murlidharbhat (Murlidhar) discussing his stint at Social Media, @dhempe (Hrish) discussing his adventures on Twitter, @faiqg (Faiq) adding some smiles and @therealnaren (Naren), @Pratsie (Prathiba), @twahul (Rahul), @sidh256 (Siddharth), @brandbull (ShyamS), @flyfiddlesticks (Prasanna) and a few others (Forgot their Twitter IDs) adding their bits to make it an interesting forum. We also saw Jishnu wishing to do a Fan-driven @swarathma event. Any ideas fans?
The food was not that great with most of us not liking the excessive coconut in them. Of the non-veggies and fish, there were a few who relished it and few who did not have comments. On the whole the experience was fun-filled, full of interesting conversations, however, lacking in finger-licking food.
Post this a few of us went to have IceCream at Lakeside IceCream Parlor and savored a few different delicacies. :)

BFT on 8th May 2010 at Momoz & Corner House, Kormangala

Having planned for the Momoz Tweetup this #BFT (Bangalore Friday Tweetup), I kept the invitation short and private. Thanks to @sanjaykkumar and @mithsm for making it without fail.

We started with some bland Thupka, graduated to Triple Shezwan Fried Rice and then Dragon Mushroom. Post that we went to Corner House for an Ice Cream as planned and discussed friends, food, bikes and Bangalore while savoring our Yummy choices.

Was a Wonderful #BFT :)

Doltish Green Beer Day 2011

I love Beer, like many of you and don’t need a reason to sip on one. However, I would not go pissed drunk to Office or School for the sheer respect for that place.  And then I find this “tradition” of Green Beer Day.

For those like me, who did not know what Green Beer Day was, its a rather silly reason to drink Green colored Beer all day and go drunk to class, started by Miami University Students and a tradition since 1952. Sometimes I feel students of Miami University just ran out of ideas and the juniors who were happy just copying the illogical habit.

How did I get there?
This SoHi $1 Sandwich ad on GMail got me curious and went to their Facebook Page. And the likes on this page suggested Green Beer Day 2011.

Curious to know why Green Beer Day was so popular I googled it.  And Viola! I find this Wiki article feeding my curiosity.  And after reading the tug between Miami University and Miami Student editorial board, I concluded, by practice, that arriving at class inebriated, would lead to disturbing the sanctity of the place of study. And this is certainly not a tolerable act.

Firstly, just adding color to the golden potion to make it green, seems so mediocre. Secondly, making it a big event, is lack of creativity. Thirdly, making it a ritual and rebelling against principles of a study place is sheer indifference. And beyond it all the display on http://greenbeerday.com/ shows Green Beer Day is March 3, 2011 and has a counter that has the countdown senselessly running even now. Also observed that the counter resets back to 30 mins 00 seconds, every time the counter expires.

Now that’s what I call Comedy of Errors :)  What say?

Who is Raj?

All the box offices have a few hits and a few misses. And behind it all are a humongous number of artists and workmanship. Sometime streamlined and sometimes all over the place. Whatever it be, all of it has creativity to some degree or the other. Yet there are thousands of these movies that never make it to the screens. There are ten times more artists who, however good, struggle and lose hope, waiting for someone to show the light at the end of the tunnel. Can we do it?  If you think the answer is a loud “YES” with a Big Smile on your face, then read on.  Cos, Raj is your motivator.

While your enthusiasm is live and smiling, I would love to alert you, it ‘ain’t gonna be a cakewalk’. How do I know that? Thanks to Rubia and Kranthi of Metro Brava Films, who made “The Successor – Private & Confidential”, a MOCUMENTRY, as they call it. Or is it a Movement?

Using the opportunity Digital Technology has for everyone, they believe its as easy for anyone to pick up a camera, film something, edit it, create animations, visual effects, mix sound and market it instantly. And all this for a very low cost or nothing at all. And they did just that. From Hoardings all over the city to easy and economical marketing ways to even tying up with Inox, all this in just about 5 lakhs.

All started with the question “Who is Raj?”  And guess what, right from the star cricketer Sreesanth to our own fashion guru Prasad Bidappa, all seem to know Raj. And when I stepped in a bit late to the PR launch of the film to find out who Raj was, every seat said “Raj was here”. Damn, did I miss him?

Apple Launch Ads choreographed

While I like blogging, I tend not to post more than 4-5 blogs a month. Today, is an exception, I must admit. Bear with me, if you care.

How Apple organizes launch day in SF

How Apple organizes launch day in SF

While I love talking about Apple for its innovation of categories and excellent Marketing initiatives, I was Wowed by the planning and detailing they did for the launch of the iPad. Thanks to ChiMac’s Blog, I found that out.

Buying Bus Stop Ad boards is not a new thing, however orchestrating the release of the ad on all these Bus Stop Ad boards at the same time when Steve Jobs actually unveiled the iPad, is Awesome Symphony!

Hats off to Steve Jobs and his team for putting in so much of diligent efforts to doing everything so perfectly well.

P.S.> So want to work with him, someday. :)
